How an Aqara smart home works

Most Aqara devices talk to each other over Zigbee, a low-power wireless network, and connect to your phone through an Aqara hub. The usual path is simple: pick a hub, add your sensors, locks, switches and lights to it, then create scenes and automations in the free Aqara Home app. From there the hub bridges everything to the smart-home platform you already use, so a door sensor can switch on a light, a presence sensor can hold the aircon, and a single tap can run your whole evening scene. A few devices, like most Wi-Fi cameras, connect on their own, and some Aqara cameras and hubs can even act as the hub for your other Zigbee devices — which keeps a starter setup compact.

Are these Aqara products the Singapore version?

Yes. We supply only the Global version that Aqara officially supports for Singapore, so the app, firmware updates and ecosystem features work as intended here. We do not sell region-locked grey imports.

Do Aqara devices need a hub?

Many do. Aqara sensors, smart locks and switches use Zigbee and need an Aqara hub to reach your phone and platforms like Apple Home or Google Home. Some products, such as most Wi-Fi cameras, connect on their own, and several Aqara cameras and hubs can act as the hub for your other devices. What are Matter and Thread, and do I need them?

Matter is a cross-brand smart-home standard and Thread is a low-power wireless network many newer devices use. Several Aqara hubs and devices support them, which makes mixing brands easier. You do not need Matter to use Aqara, but if you are building a multi-brand setup, ask us which hub fits best.

How fast is delivery in Singapore?

Do different Aqara devices need different hubs?

Do Aqara cameras need a paid subscription?

Most Aqara cameras record locally to a microSD card with no mandatory subscription, and many support Apple HomeKit Secure Video. Optional cloud plans are available if you want off-site backup, but they are not required to use the camera.

Is there an app, and is it free?

Yes. Aqara devices are set up and controlled through the free Aqara Home app on iOS and Android. You can also control most devices through Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa or SmartThings once they are added via a hub.
