The Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2 is a native Matter-over-Thread contact sensor that tells you the instant a door, window, drawer or cabinet is opened or closed — and sends that alert straight to your phone. One of the first Aqara sensors to support Matter natively, the P2 connects directly to Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Aqara Home and Home Assistant through a Matter-compatible Thread Border Router. Native Matter over Thread, working with every major platform

As one of the first Aqara sensors to support Matter natively, the Door and Window Sensor P2 connects directly to Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Aqara Home and Home Assistant. Control and automations run through Matter over Thread, with voice support via Siri, Google Assistant and Alexa. Automation conditions can vary slightly between ecosystems, but the core open/closed status and alerts are available everywhere.

You’ll need a Matter-compatible Thread Border Router

Because the P2 is a Thread device, it needs a Matter-compatible Thread Border Router on your network to come online. For Aqara Home and the complete feature set — including adjustable sensitivity and the tamper alarm — pair it with an Aqara Thread hub such as the Aqara Hub M3 or the compact Aqara Hub M100. If you prefer another ecosystem, any tested 2-in-1 Matter controller and Thread Border Router works too.

  • Aqara Thread hubs (for Aqara Home + extra features): Hub M3 or Hub M100.
  • Apple: HomePod (2nd gen), HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K (2nd/3rd gen).
  • Google: Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max or Nest Wi-Fi Pro.

Note: the P2 uses Thread and Bluetooth LE, not Zigbee, so it will not work with older Zigbee-only Aqara hubs. If you run a Zigbee-only hub, choose the Zigbee Aqara Door and Window Sensor T1 instead.

Real-time alerts, not an on-device siren

The P2’s alarm features are smartphone notifications, not a sound from the device. The sensor has no buzzer or speaker: when a door or window is opened, or if the sensor is tampered with, the P2 sends a real-time alert to your phone wherever you are. The only hardware indicators on the unit are an LED light and a reset button. This makes it ideal for discreet monitoring — medicine cabinets, drawers, refrigerators, safe boxes and entry points — where you want to be notified rather than have the room sound an alarm.

Adjustable sensitivity and tamper alerts in Aqara Home

Add the P2 to the Aqara Home app through an Aqara Thread hub such as the Hub M3 and you unlock extra controls: adjustable detection sensitivity within a 1–3 cm range, an adjustable sleep time, and the tamper alarm. Aqara has also indicated further capabilities will arrive as free OTA updates, so the sensor gains features over time.

Indoor placement and installation

  • Indoor use only. The P2 has no IP rating — keep it indoors and away from humid environments or direct weather.
  • Two-part, residue-free mounting. A main unit and a slim accessory (magnet) unit mount with upgraded stickers that leave no marks; an included flat magnet plate adds flexibility.
  • Wide placement range. Doors, casement and sliding windows, drawers, closets, cabinets and similar.
  • Simple setup. Hold the reset button until the LED blinks to enter pairing mode, then add it via your Matter app or Aqara Home.

Does the Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2 need a hub?

Yes. The P2 is a Matter-over-Thread sensor, so it needs a Matter-compatible Thread Border Router. For Aqara Home and the full feature set, use an Aqara Thread hub such as the Hub M3 or Hub M100. You can also use a 2-in-1 Matter controller and Thread Border Router from another ecosystem — for example a HomePod (2nd gen), HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K, a SmartThings Hub v3 or Station, an Amazon Echo (4th gen), or a Google Nest Hub (2nd gen).

Does the P2 work with Zigbee-only Aqara hubs?

No. The P2 uses Thread and Bluetooth LE, not Zigbee, so it will not connect to older Zigbee-only Aqara hubs. If you run a Zigbee-only hub, choose the Zigbee Aqara Door and Window Sensor T1 instead — it pairs directly with Aqara Zigbee hubs.
