Why buy the Aqara H1 Pro Smart Wall Switch in Singapore

• It fits the boxes we actually have. Aqara Hong Kong’s listing for this switch states an 86 × 86 mm wall box — the Singapore standard — and a metal back frame that resists warping.
• A finish that is not white plastic. Two metal-look panels, black and gold, for feature walls, dark joinery and hotel-style interiors where a white plate is the wrong note.
• MARS-Tech on the with-neutral version. Aqara Hong Kong describes a technology that keeps Aqara smart lamps running stably even when the smart switch is off — the long-standing problem with putting a smart bulb behind a smart switch. Aqara states it supports Aqara smart lights only.

Black or gold — and what the colours really look like

Both finishes are the same switch inside, with the same wiring, the same features and the same warranty; only the panel differs. The gold is a warm champagne rather than a bright brass — it reads as a soft metallic beside timber and off-white walls. The black is a very dark charcoal with a faint blue-grey cast in daylight rather than a flat jet black — closer to a dark slate under a warm downlight. We would rather say that here than have a plate arrive looking greyer than the word “black” led you to expect. It is a different finish from the much lighter silver-grey sold on the H1: the Singapore distributor lists the range in white, black, gold and dark grey, and these are four distinct panels, not two. If a plain white plate is what the room wants, that is the H1 Smart Wall Switch, which is the same range in white and grey and costs less.

Neutral or no neutral — the choice that matters most

Get this right before anything else. In Aqara’s own naming the with-neutral switch is the H1 Pro and the no-neutral switch in the same finishes is simply the H1 — PassionHome lists both here under the one H1 Pro name so you can compare them side by side. Aqara Hong Kong sets them apart plainly: the no-neutral version suits existing homes wired without a neutral and installs with no extra cable, while the with-neutral version adds electricity statistics, rated-power measurement, overload and overheat protection, steadier power, and Zigbee range extension of roughly 7 to 10 metres.

Most Singapore switch boxes were never wired with a neutral, which is why the no-neutral version exists at all. It draws a trickle through the lamp to keep itself alive, and that is why very low-wattage LED fittings can flicker or glow faintly on any no-neutral switch. If the electrician is already in the wall for a renovation, ask for neutrals at the switch boxes and take the with-neutral version — here it is also the cheaper of the two. One, two or three gangs

Count the rockers on the plate you are replacing, not the lights in the room — one gang per switched circuit. A single rocker suits a bedroom or bathroom light, two covers the usual living-room pair, and three handles a hall plate driving several zones. Each gang appears in Aqara Home as its own switch, so a three-gang plate gives three independently controllable, independently schedulable circuits out of one box.

What it does that an ordinary switch cannot

Convert to wireless switch. Aqara Hong Kong lists free conversion to a wireless switch: the relay stays closed so the circuit is never cut, and the rocker becomes a scene button instead. This is what lets a smart bulb or a smart ceiling light sit behind a wall switch without dropping off the network — and on the with-neutral version, Aqara’s MARS-Tech is described as keeping Aqara smart lamps stable even with the switch off.

Two-way without new cable. Aqara states the switch supports 2-way operation without extra wiring, and warns against wiring it as a traditional 2-way circuit. The tidy alternative is a battery Wireless Switch H1 stuck where the second switch used to be.

Indicator and memory settings. Aqara lists a power-off memory function that restores the previous state when power returns, an indicator-light inversion setting so you choose whether the LED is on or off when the circuit is live, and the option to switch the indicator off entirely on a schedule — useful in a bedroom. Pair it with a motion sensor or a temperature and humidity sensor and the plate stops being something you have to walk over to.

Hub and ecosystems

This is a Zigbee 3.0 switch and an Aqara hub is required for remote control and scenes — the Hub M3, Smart Hub M100, Hub M2 or a compact Hub E1. Aqara Hong Kong’s listing for this switch names Siri voice control and compatibility with Apple Home, Google Home, Aqara Home and Alexa through the hub, so the switch drops into whichever of those you already run. Installing the H1 Pro in a Singapore home

Wiring

This is a mains-wired switch and the power must be off at the consumer unit before the old plate comes off. Have a licensed electrician do the swap and confirm what is in the box — in particular whether a neutral is present, which decides the version you need. If a position turns out to have no neutral and you want the full feature set anyway, leave the existing plate alone and hide an Aqara Switch Module T1 or Dual Relay Module T2 behind it. For a water heater or another high-load appliance, this is the wrong tool — use the Smart 20A Switch H1.

Pairing

Add your hub in the Aqara Home app first, then add the switch from the app with the circuit powered. If pairing fails, move the hub closer and try again. Once paired, each gang shows up as its own switch and can be renamed, scheduled, grouped and used as an automation trigger.
