The Aqara Motion Sensor P1 is a Zigbee 3.0 PIR motion sensor with a built-in light sensor — so your lights, scenes and security alerts can react the moment someone moves, and only when the room is dark enough to need them. It detects across a wide 170° field of view, runs up to five years on two coin cells, and lets you tune both sensitivity and re-trigger time in the Aqara Home app. A compatible Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub connects it to Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, IFTTT and Aqara Home.

Motion plus light, for smarter automations

Beyond simple motion, the P1 reads the ambient light level with a built-in lux sensor. That lets you build automations that only fire when they should — for example, turn on a hallway light when motion is detected and brightness is below the level you set, or arm an away-mode alert that sends a notification and sounds a local alarm through your Aqara hub when movement is detected while you are out.

Tune it to your space

  • Sensitivity: three modes (high, medium, low) that change the triggering distance to suit the room and cut false alarms.
  • Detection timeout: adjustable from 1 to 200 seconds, so lights can switch off promptly instead of waiting a fixed minute.

The Motion Sensor P1 is a Zigbee 3.0 device, so it connects to smart-home platforms through a compatible Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub such as the Aqara Hub M2 or the flagship Aqara Hub M3. With a hub in place, the P1 works with Aqara Home, Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and IFTTT. Matter is delivered as a bridged feature through a compatible Aqara hub rather than on the sensor itself.

Installation and placement in Singapore homes

  • Indoor use. Recommended mounting height 1.2 to 2.0 m, near the edge of a shelf, cabinet or wall.
  • No tools needed. Use the included 360° rotatable stand and sticker; choose upright, wall, no-stand or upside-down placement.
  • Avoid false triggers. Do not aim the sensor at heat sources or air-conditioner vents, and avoid metal surfaces that can interfere with the Zigbee signal.
  • Surface care. Avoid tile, glass, marble and other smooth or moist surfaces so the adhesive holds.

Does the Aqara Motion Sensor P1 need a hub?

Yes. The P1 is a Zigbee 3.0 sensor and needs a compatible Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub such as the Hub M2 or Hub M3 to connect. The hub is what runs your automations and links the sensor to Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, IFTTT and the Aqara Home app.

Will a pet trigger the Motion Sensor P1?

It can. If you do not want a pet to trigger it, mount the P1 higher up and angle it so that floor-level pet movement falls outside the detection area, as shown in the quick-start guide.

Why does the P1 sometimes report motion when no one is there?

PIR sensors react to moving heat. Hot objects in the detection area, or a large hot-and-cold airflow such as an air-conditioner vent, can cause a false trigger — so avoid pointing the sensor directly at appliances or vents, and avoid smooth, glossy or high-temperature surfaces for the adhesive.

Where should I install the Motion Sensor P1?

Indoors, at a recommended height of 1.2 to 2.0 metres, on a clean flat surface near the edge of a shelf, cabinet or wall. The included 360° rotatable stand and sticker need no tools. Avoid metal surfaces, which can interfere with the Zigbee signal.
