Presence detection that sees a person sitting still

The FP1E uses a 60–61 GHz millimetre-wave radar rather than passive infrared. Radar picks up the micro-movements of breathing and small shifts in posture, which is why it keeps reporting Presence while someone reads on the sofa or works at a laptop — situations where a PIR sensor would time out and cut the lights. Aqara describes the detection response as very fast; in practice the lights come on as you step into the room and stay on until the room is actually empty.

Presence, absence, moving and still

In Aqara Home the FP1E reports four states — Presence, Absence, Moving and Still — and tracks how long each has lasted, so automations can use conditions such as Presence for 10 minutes or Absence for 2 minutes. That makes the difference between a study light that turns off the moment you step out and one that waits two minutes in case you are coming straight back.

6 m range, 120° field of view, up to 50 m² coverage

Aqara rates the FP1E for a 6 m radial detection range with a 120° field of view both horizontally and vertically, widening to about 180° at close range. Wall-mounted, that covers up to roughly 35 m²; ceiling-mounted at 2.8 m and facing down, it covers a circle of up to about 50 m² beneath it. These are Aqara’s ideal-condition figures — furniture, mounting height and angle all affect the real footprint. The maximum range is adjustable from 0 to 6 m in 30 cm steps in the app, which is how you stop a sensor in a bedroom from seeing movement in the corridor outside.

TriD-Space AI filters out false triggers

Radar bounces off large glass panels, mirrors and metal, and reacts to moving air from an air-conditioner outlet or a spinning fan — the usual reasons cheaper mmWave sensors keep the lights on in an empty room. Aqara’s TriD-Space AI runs a spatial-learning pass (about 30 seconds with the room empty) and then continues to adapt, filtering interference from glass, mirrors and metal, from air-conditioners, curtains and cleaning robots, and from small pets. Aqara notes that occasional false detections can still happen when the sensor is new and that accuracy improves with use.

Zigbee 3.0 and Matter over Bridge — which hub you need

The FP1E is a Zigbee 3.0 child device, so it needs an Aqara hub that supports Zigbee 3.0; it does not connect to Wi-Fi on its own (that is the FP2, which is standalone Wi-Fi). Any Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub works — Aqara names no exclusions. Current PassionHome options include the Hub M3, Hub M200, Hub M100, M2 Hub, Hub E1, and camera hubs such as the Camera Hub G3 and Camera Hub G2H Pro.

Third-party ecosystems

The FP1E itself is not a native Matter device. When it is paired to an Aqara hub that supports Matter bridging — the M-series hubs, for example — it is bridged into Apple Home, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, Amazon Alexa, Home Assistant and Homey as a Matter occupancy sensor. Advanced settings such as the range limit and AI spatial learning live in the Aqara Home app. Check that your chosen hub supports Matter bridging before counting on third-party exposure.

Automations that make sense in a Singapore home

• Bedroom aircon guard. If the FP1E reports Absence for 15 minutes, switch off the air-conditioner through an Aqara hub’s infrared control — no more cooling an empty room all afternoon.
• Study and home-office lighting. Lights on at Presence, off after Absence for 3 minutes; the radar keeps them on while you type or read without waving at the sensor.
• Bathroom and toilet lights. Ceiling-mount the FP1E outside the wet area (it is indoor-only and not for humid rooms) or aim it through the doorway so the light stays on for a long shower.
• Elderly-care check. Trigger a notification if a room shows no Presence during hours when someone should be up and about.
• Night lighting. Combine Presence with a light sensor such as the Motion and Light Sensor P2 to bring up a dim corridor light only after dark.

Installing the FP1E

Mounting

The box includes a magnetic mount and an adhesive sticker, and the base can also be screwed to the wall. The sensor head rotates 360° on the mount, so you can wall-mount it at head height, tuck it into a corner, or ceiling-mount it facing down for the widest coverage. Aqara’s placement tips: face the front of the human body where possible (it improves detection of breathing and micro-movement), and keep the sensor away from air-conditioner outlets, air purifiers and fans.

Power

The FP1E is USB-powered, not battery-powered: a fixed 2 m cord ends in a USB-A plug and needs a 5 V / 1 A USB adapter, which is not included by Aqara or PassionHome — a spare phone charger is fine. Plan the mounting spot around the nearest power point or a USB socket on a Singapore 13 A outlet.

Where not to use it

Aqara’s manual states the FP1E is designed for indoor use only and should not be used in humid environments or outdoors. It has no IP rating, so keep it out of shower areas, service yards and balconies. Its operating range is −10°C to 40°C at up to 95% relative humidity, non-condensing.
