How the Sky Light H1 works

Aqara’s manual describes the Sky Light H1 as reproducing, indoors, the effect of sunlight shining in through a skylight — a blue clear sky, a golden dusk — with brightness and colour temperature adjusted freely in the Aqara app once the light is added to an Aqara hub. The fixture is 200 mm deep because the sky is an optical effect rather than a printed panel: a light source at the back and an internal reflector produce the sense of distance behind the diffuser, while a separate warm beam projects the sun onto the adjacent wall. Aqara notes that fine dust on the internal mirror does not affect the output and should not be wiped.

The manual’s own illuminance table gives a sense of the beam: installed 0.4 m from the wall, the sun spot starts 0.4 m below the ceiling, spreads from 1.3 m wide at the top to 1.9 m at the bottom, and reaches about 3,650 lux at its centre; at 0.6 m from the wall it is slightly larger and around 2,750 lux. The Singapore distributor lists total output at 2,800 lumens at 6500K.

Aqara’s Hong Kong listing adds that brightness and colour temperature are steplessly adjustable with preset sunrise, early-morning, midday and evening scenes and a dynamic dimming sequence between them, and that the fixture is meant for indoor spaces generally — homes, but also hotels, offices, clinics, gyms and screening rooms, where a windowless room has to feel open.

Aqara Home, Apple Home and voice

The Sky Light H1 is a Zigbee light that is added to an Aqara hub. Both the Singapore distributor and Aqara’s own Hong Kong listing state the requirement generically — an Aqara hub — without naming models, so we confirm the pairing against your existing Aqara hub before you order rather than assume it. The Singapore distributor describes it as the first clear-sky simulation product to support Apple HomeKit, and lists Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant as well, all through the hub. In Aqara Home it can be scheduled through the day, tied to a Presence Sensor FP2 so the sky comes on when someone enters the room, and controlled from a Wireless Switch H1 or a MagicPad S1 Plus on the wall.

Installing the Sky Light H1 in a Singapore home

Ceiling requirements

This is a recessed fixture for a false ceiling, not a surface light: the body is 1195 × 595 × 200 mm and weighs 19.9 kg. Aqara’s manual calls for a ceiling opening of 1160 × 585 mm, a cavity of at least 22 cm above the ceiling line, and a ceiling able to carry more than 80 kg — if the plasterboard alone cannot, the internal structure must be reinforced before installation. The manual’s method fixes two solid-wood battens (80 × 40 mm, about 1,200 mm long) to the ceiling grid on the short sides of the opening, then secures the light body to them with the supplied screws. The opening’s long edge runs parallel to the nearest wall, and the arrow on the body must point towards that wall so the sunbeam lands where it should.

Wiring and commissioning

Rated input is 220 V~ 50/60 Hz at 0.67 A, wired live, neutral and earth into the fixture’s junction box; power must be off during installation. A detachable antenna screws onto the body for the Zigbee link. The magnetic face cover comes off for installation and the diffuser carries protective film on both sides that is peeled only at the end — the surface must not be touched by hand. In practice this is a renovation-stage item planned with your interior designer and installed by a licensed electrician and ceiling contractor; the light itself is not a DIY product.
