Description

The Aqara Hub M100 is a compact USB-A plug-in smart-home hub that is a Matter Controller and Matter Bridge, a Thread Border Router, and an Aqara Zigbee bridge — all in a device the size of a USB stick. At $89 it is the most affordable way into a Matter smart home at PassionHome: pair Aqara Zigbee and Matter-over-Thread accessories, then bring them into Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings or Home Assistant. It runs key automations locally, adds Wi-Fi 6 with WPA3, and plugs straight into any USB-A socket — no cable, no adapter, no wiring.

Why buy the Aqara Hub M100 in Singapore

  • A real Matter hub at the entry price. The M100 acts as both a Matter Controller and a Matter Bridge — so it can run a Matter home and bring your Aqara devices into other ecosystems. It is Aqara’s most affordable Matter hub.
  • Thread Border Router + mesh extender. Hosts a Thread network for Matter-over-Thread accessories and strengthens range and reliability — useful as you add newer Aqara sensors, lights and locks.
  • Aqara Zigbee bridge. Connects Aqara Zigbee sensors, plugs, switches and curtain controllers — up to 20 Zigbee plus 20 Thread devices simultaneously (40 in total). Aqara Zigbee accessories only, not third-party Zigbee.
  • Wi-Fi 6 with WPA3. 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 6 for efficient performance in device-heavy homes, with WPA3 security.
  • Local automations that work offline. Zigbee and Matter-over-Thread automations run on the hub itself, so essential routines keep working if your broadband drops.
  • USB-A plug-in convenience. 108 x 30 x 8 mm and USB-powered — plug it into a wall socket, power strip, router, power bank or PC. No neutral wiring, no Ethernet run.

A real Matter hub: Controller, Bridge and Thread Border Router

The M100 is a certified Matter hub that acts as both a Matter Controller and a Matter Bridge. As a Controller it can run a Matter smart home; as a Bridge it exposes your Aqara Zigbee and Thread accessories to third-party ecosystems. Through Aqara’s Advanced Matter Bridging, it connects to Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Home Assistant and Homey while preserving Aqara device features that basic Matter would otherwise drop.

As a Thread Border Router and mesh extender, the M100 hosts a Thread network and improves its range and stability — so Matter-over-Thread accessories respond quickly and stay connected. It runs Zigbee and Thread at the same time, giving you one hub for both the established Aqara Zigbee range and the newest Thread devices.

Works with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings and Home Assistant

The M100 brings its connected Aqara accessories into every major platform via Matter:

  • Aqara Home — native app, full feature set, local automations.
  • Apple Home — via Matter. Remote control away from home needs an Apple home hub on your account (a HomePod or Apple TV). Only child devices that support Apple Home appear there.
  • Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Home Assistant and Homey — via Matter and Advanced Matter Bridging.

What the M100 doesn’t do — and when to choose another hub

The M100 is a deliberately compact hub. Knowing what it leaves out helps you pick the right hub the first time:

  • No infrared control. No IR transmitter, so it cannot control air-conditioners, TVs or fans. For 360-degree IR, the Aqara M2 Hub ($99) emits IR from Aqara’s code library, and the Hub M200 / M3 Hub add IR learning.
  • No built-in speaker. The M100 cannot sound a local alarm or doorbell chime on its own — it relies on a paired child device for that. The M2, M200 and M3 have built-in speakers.
  • No PoE. Power and data are USB-A only; there is no Ethernet port. The Hub M200 and M3 Hub support PoE for a clean wired install.
  • No Bluetooth child devices. The M100’s Bluetooth is for setup only; it does not host Bluetooth accessories like the Aqara Voice Mate H1. The M200 and M3 do.
  • No eMMC / not a security-device hub. The M3 Hub adds eMMC local storage and the security-device classification some Aqara locks require.
  • 40-device cap. Up to 20 Zigbee + 20 Thread. For larger homes, the Hub M200 doubles capacity to 80 simultaneous devices.

If you want the cheapest possible Zigbee hub and don’t need Matter or Thread, the older Aqara Hub E1 ($49) is an outgoing entry option. For most new Matter-based setups, the M100 is the natural starting point — use the comparison below to confirm it fits your plan.

Local automations and Wi-Fi 6

The M100 processes key Zigbee and Matter-over-Thread automations locally on the hub, so door-sensor triggers, motion-triggered scenes and scheduled routines keep running even if your Singtel, StarHub or M1 broadband drops — cloud features such as remote app access resume when the internet returns. It also supports Aqara’s Ark Technology for multi-hub disaster recovery. On the network side, the M100 uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 6 (802.11 b/g/n/ax, single-band) with WPA3 security.

Installation and placement in Singapore homes

  • Power. Plug the M100 directly into any USB-A port rated 2.5 W or higher — a wall socket, power strip, power bank, router or PC. No power adapter needed; the device is the plug.
  • Wi-Fi. The M100 joins your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi during Aqara Home setup. If your router broadcasts 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz on the same name, disable band-steering during pairing so the hub finds the 2.4 GHz band.
  • Coverage. Keep child devices within about 10 m of the hub, with no more than two concrete walls in between, for a stable connection.
  • HDB / condo fit. The compact USB-A form factor suits HDB, condo and landed homes with up to 40 devices. No neutral wiring and no Ethernet run required.
  • Setup time. Around 5—10 minutes for the hub; each Aqara child device then pairs in under a minute.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Aqara Hub M100 a Matter Controller?

Yes. The Hub M100 acts as both a Matter Controller and a Matter Bridge. As a Controller it can run a Matter smart home; as a Bridge it brings your Aqara Zigbee and Thread devices into Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Home Assistant and Homey through Aqara’s Advanced Matter Bridging, which preserves Aqara device features across those ecosystems.

Does the Hub M100 support Thread?

Yes. The M100 is a Thread Border Router and a Thread mesh extender, so it hosts and strengthens a Thread network for Matter-over-Thread accessories such as newer sensors, lights and locks. It runs Zigbee and Thread at the same time.

How many devices can the Hub M100 connect?

Aqara recommends up to 40 child devices in total — up to 20 Zigbee plus up to 20 Thread, connected simultaneously. The Hub supports Aqara Zigbee accessories only, not third-party Zigbee devices. For larger installs, the Hub M200 (80 simultaneous) is the better fit.

Which platforms does the M100 work with?

Aqara Home, Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings and Home Assistant, all via Matter. For remote control through Apple Home you also need an Apple home hub on your account, such as a HomePod or Apple TV. Only child devices that themselves support a given platform are exposed to it.

Does the Hub M100 control my air-conditioner or TV?

No. The M100 has no infrared transmitter, so it cannot control AC units, TVs or fans. If you need IR control, choose the Aqara M2 Hub (emit only) or the Hub M200 / M3 Hub (which add IR learning). The M100 also has no built-in speaker, so local audio alarms must come from a paired child device.

Hub M100 or Hub M200 — which should I choose?

The M100 ($89) is the compact, USB-A plug-in way into Matter, Thread and Aqara Zigbee for up to 40 devices. Choose the Hub M200 ($149) if you need more capacity (80 devices), 360-degree IR with learning, a built-in 90 dB speaker, PoE for a wired install, Bluetooth child devices, or dual-band Wi-Fi 6. Both are full Matter Controllers and Thread Border Routers.

Does the Hub M100 need a power adapter?

No. The M100 is a USB-A plug that powers itself from any USB-A port rated 2.5 W or higher — a wall socket, power strip, power bank, router or PC. The box contains the Hub and a user manual only, with no adapter and no cable. PassionHome does not bundle power adapters on Aqara products.

Is the Hub M100 covered by warranty in Singapore?

Yes. The M100 carries the official 24-month Aqara manufacturer warranty, serviced at the Aqara Service Center in Singapore, with no overseas RMA. PassionHome.sg is an Authorised Aqara Dealer. WhatsApp +65 9051 7063 if you need help with a warranty claim.
