Why buy the Aqara Single Switch Module T1 (No Neutral) in Singapore

• Keep your existing switches. The module sits behind the switch plate you already have, so a decorative or heritage switch stays on the wall and still controls the light manually.

What the module does

Aqara describes the T1 as a single-channel relay controller that can be placed in the cassette of a switch or a socket and smart-controls one switch button. Wired between the mains and the load, it toggles the load itself; the external switch connected to its S0/S1 terminals becomes an input, so pressing the wall switch still works and the app, a schedule or an automation can also switch the same load. Aqara states an Aqara hub — including the camera hubs — is required for full functionality.

Typical Singapore uses: the ceiling fan and the downlights in the living room, the exhaust fan in a windowless bathroom, a water heater switch that should only be on for twenty minutes, or a wall socket feeding a lamp. Aqara’s FAQ also allows installation inside a ceiling light, in the ceiling void, or inside an appliance with enough internal space and suitable electrical characteristics — always by a professional. If you are replacing the switch plate anyway, an Aqara Light Switch H2 or Z1 Pro does the same job with a smart face; the module is for when the existing switch must stay.

Automations on the Aqara hub

Once on the hub the module behaves like any Aqara switch. Aqara’s own examples: turn the light off if a motion sensor sees no movement for five minutes, or turn a lamp on when a door sensor opens. Add a Wireless Switch H1 or Mini Switch T1 anywhere in the room and you have a second control point without chasing cable through the wall.

The No Neutral module does not include power metering — Aqara documents power detection and consumption statistics only for the With Neutral version. If you need energy readings, choose the With Neutral module where a neutral is available.

Through the hub the module is exposed to Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa (per the Singapore distributor), so the light it controls can be added to a HomeKit scene or switched by voice.

Installing the Single Switch Module T1 in a Singapore home

Wiring

Four terminals: L (live in), L1 (load out), and S0/S1 for the external switch — no neutral. Aqara’s manual gives the same three wiring methods as the With Neutral version (switch across S0/S1, switch between S0 and live, or no switch), and an existing two-way switch is wired with its load-side end to S0 to keep dual control. Maximum conductor size is 2.5 mm² with a 6–8 mm strip length. Aqara notes the module is suitable for non-remote-control lights of 3 W and above.

Because every conductor including the antenna can carry mains once powered, Aqara requires the module to be fixed inside a protective enclosure that cannot be reached by hand — a switch pattress or the lamp’s cover — and installed by a professional with the supply isolated. Incorrect wiring can burn the module out. This is a job for a licensed electrician in Singapore.

Antenna placement

The T1 has a short external antenna. Aqara’s guidance: stick it to the side wall of a plastic pattress parallel to the wall; keep it within 10 mm of the wall behind a plastic switch plate, or more than 15 mm from the wall behind a metal bracket; keep it more than 15 mm from the module body and the mains cable; and in a metal box, run it onto the plastic face plate. In a ceiling or luminaire, avoid metal and shielding. Do not bend or pull it hard.

Pairing and range

An Aqara hub is required — the Smart Hub M100, Hub M2, Hub M3 or a compact Hub E1. The module enters pairing mode on first power-up, or hold its button for 8 seconds, or toggle the external switch on and off five times. Aqara quotes 7–10 m to the hub with one wall in between; add a hub or a Zigbee repeater for further rooms. A triple press runs the range test — the hub gives a voice prompt if the link is good.
