Aqara documents 9 unlocking methods on the U100:

Fingerprint — daily-use primary method

Up to 50 enrolled fingerprints with a 98.6% recognition rate and recognition under 0.5 seconds. Enrolment via the Aqara Home app over Bluetooth at first setup, or locally on the lock. Suitable for households up to 10 members with multiple fingers enrolled per person for redundancy.

Password — 75 simultaneous plus phantom-password anti-peep

Stores up to 75 simultaneous passwords (ordinary + temporary periodic), plus 8 one-time codes per hour. Codes are 6 to 10 digits. The phantom password feature lets you pad your real PIN with random digits before and after, up to 20 total — the lock authenticates against the correct embedded sub-sequence (anti-peep protection for entries in semi-public corridors).

Apple Home Key — tap-to-unlock from iPhone or Apple Watch (no hub)

After adding the U100 to Apple Home via the Matter QR code on the lock, a virtual Home Key card is generated in Apple Wallet automatically. Standard Mode: open Wallet, select the home-key card, hold the device near the NFC area on the outer panel. Express Mode (configured in Apple Home): unlock with Face ID or device passcode while holding the phone or watch near the NFC area, no Wallet interaction needed. No Aqara hub is required for Apple Home Key — this flow works direct via Bluetooth + NFC.

NFC card — Aqara branded and Mifare M1 compatible

The U100 reads both Aqara-branded NFC cards (2 included with the Kit) AND the Mifare M1 standard format. This means existing access cards from your condo lobby, office, or gym can often double as U100 unlock credentials.

Smart home connectivity — Matter bridged via the included hub

The U100 uses Zigbee 3.0 as its smart-home protocol and Bluetooth 5.0 for local app commissioning + direct Apple Home Key communication. The U100 is NOT native Matter and NOT Thread — those are on Aqara’s newer U200 / U300 / U500 generation. For Matter functionality, the U100 bridges Zigbee → Matter through a Matter-supported Aqara hub. Door fit and installation

What kind of door fits the U100

The U100 is an American-standard single-cylinder deadbolt replacement. It requires a wooden door (or comparable material) with a single-bore deadbolt prep:

• Door hole: 54 mm diameter (2 1/8″) — standard US single-bore deadbolt cutout
• Backset: 60 mm or 70 mm (2 3/8″ or 2 3/4″)
• Door thickness: 35–55 mm (1 3/8″ to 2 11/64″)
• Door gap: 2–10 mm
• Opening direction: all directions supported (left/right, inward/outward)

Three Singapore use cases

1. HDB metal gates (most popular). The U100 + $200 gate-accessory kit + install converts the wooden-door deadbolt to a gate-door deadbolt. Singapore HDB main doors are typically mortise-prep — the U100’s deadbolt cylinder is a valid alternative if your main door has been retrofitted to accept a single-bore deadbolt prep, or you’re working with a non-standard door. Aqara’s mortise lineup (A100 / D100 / D200i) is the premium tier for HDB main doors; the U100 is a legitimate budget alternative.

What’s included in the installation

Standard wooden-door installation is included in the SGD price. Battery and emergency power

The U100 runs on 4 × AA (LR6) alkaline batteries. Aqara’s lab-measured battery life is approximately 8 months under typical usage (8 unlocks + 8 auto-locks per day at 25 °C). The lock raises a low-battery alert in the Aqara Home app at ~20% remaining capacity.

If the batteries fully deplete while you’re outside the home, the USB-C emergency power port at the base of the outer panel accepts any standard 5 V DC USB-C power bank or charger. Hold the power source against the port, and the lock momentarily powers up to accept fingerprint / password / NFC / Apple Home Key as normal. The 2 mechanical keys shipped with the Kit are the ultimate offline fallback.
