What is the difference between an Aqara Motion Sensor and Xiaomi Motion sensor?
The Aqara Motion sensor is more advanced as it also has an inbuilt light sensor. This way you can program your lights to turn on when there is motion detected AND there is also Darkness. With the Xiaomi motion sensor, you can only choose automation based on motion detection but not based on the absence of light. As a workaround, if you are using the Xiaomi Motion sensor to avoid turning the lights on in the daytime, you can set a condition to only to run the task after 7 pm. Whereas with the Aqara Motion and Light Sensor you will still automatically turn on the lights even though it is in the afternoon time if it happens to be dark and cloudy on that day.
Will there be a notification sent to my phone once motion is detected?
Yes, you can set up the settings to receive such notifications on your Mi Home app.
Can I set up the Aqara or Xiaomi Motion sensor to only turn on the lights after 7.30pm?
Yes, you can that is a good idea. This way you are only turning on the lights after sunset. However, with the Aqara Motion Sensor, you do not have to set a time condition. It will automatically determine if it is dark and turn on the lights if there is motion detected. Which means on rainy days where it can get dark even during daytime, you will have full automation. If it rains during the daytime, with the Xiaomi motion sensor, you will still have to turn on the lights manually. With the Aqara motion sensor since it is not time specific, instead it is brightness specific, so you will continue to enjoy full automation.
What can it control?
You can use the Aqara motion sensor to turn on your Yeelight Bulb, Yeelight LED Strip, Yeelight Ceiling Light or if you are replacing your normal wall switch with the Aqara Wall Switch you can also control your normal ceiling lights, downlights and track lights.
Is my motion sensor faulty when it sends notification that motion is detected although no one is home at that time?
Don’t worry there is no paranormal activity if this happens. If the motion sensor placed near a heat source like oven or any other heat-emitting appliances, such a situation may occur. Though unlikely, strong sunlight could cause this effect too. So, do install it in a place where these conditions are ruled out. 99.9% of the time you will not face any such issues.
How do I ensure that my pets do not trigger the motion sensor?
Place the motion sensor on higher grounds suitable for human motion detection only.
How to reset the sensor?
Press and hold the reset hole of the device for 3 seconds; the indicator flashes three times to restore the default settings.
Can I pair the sensor to another gateway?
Yes, you can, but you would need to reset the device first before re-pairing to another gateway.
