How to set an auto turn-off timer (Inching) in the Smart Life app
Inching is the SmartGeez M8 Pro’s automatic shut-off. Once it is switched on, the heater gets a fixed run-time — and the switch turns itself off when that time is up. It is the single most useful setting on a water heater switch, and it takes about thirty seconds to configure.
Why Inching is worth setting up
It works no matter who turned the heater on. Wall press, app tap, voice command, schedule or scene — the countdown starts the moment power goes on. There is no way to bypass it by accident.
The heater can never be left on all day. The classic “did anyone switch off the heater?” problem disappears. Forgetting simply stops costing you anything.
Real savings on your bill. A storage tank reheats itself over and over to stay hot. Capping every switch-on at 30–45 minutes cuts out the hours of idle reheating you never needed.
Safer for the household. Kids, helpers and guests can switch the heater on as usual — it still shuts down on its own, every single time.

Open the switch in Smart Life
Launch the Smart Life app and tap your water heater switch to open its device page. If you have not paired the switch yet, add it first — Smart Life is the app for both the WiFi and the Zigbee version of the M8 Pro.

Tap Timer
At the bottom of the device page you will see Timer and Setting. Tap Timer — this is where every scheduling feature on the switch lives.

Switch to the Inching tab
Across the top you get Countdown, Schedule, Circulate, Random and Inching. Tap Inching — the last tab on the right.

Choose how long the heater may stay on
Scroll the two wheels to set minutes and seconds. The shortest setting is 1 second; the longest is 59 minutes 59 seconds. For a storage tank, 30–45 minutes is usually more than enough for a hot shower; for an instant heater, 15–20 minutes is typical.

Turn the Inching toggle on
Flip the toggle at the top of the screen to enable the feature. That is the step people miss — setting the duration alone does nothing until the toggle is on. Once it turns blue, Inching is live.

Test it once
Press the wall switch by hand and leave it. When your set time is up the switch should click off on its own and the app tile should show it as off. Test with a short duration first, then set it back to your real run-time.
