Rotate to dim, press to switch

The dial turns continuously with a light detent and presses down with a click. In Aqara Home, rotation is mapped to a light or a group of lights — brightness by default, or colour temperature — so a slow turn takes a Ceiling Light T1M from reading-bright to a warm evening glow. Map the same dial to a Curtain Driver E1 and the rotation angle becomes the curtain opening percentage. Press for on/off, double-press or long-press for a scene such as Good night, and press-and-turn for a fifth, separate action.

Rotation sensitivity can be set to low, medium or high. Low suits precise colour-temperature adjustment, medium is the everyday default, and high makes a short turn sweep brightness quickly — useful when one knob is controlling the whole living room.

One knob, many devices

Because the knob is a wireless controller rather than a wired switch, it is not tied to one circuit. The same dial can control a lamp on an Aqara plug, a ceiling light, a curtain track or a scene that sets all three. It also works well as a second control point: put it on the bedside table to dim lights that are wired to a Dual Relay Module T2 or a Dimmer Switch H2 across the room.

Apple Home: press actions yes, rotation no

Through an Aqara hub the knob appears in Apple Home, where its press, double-press and long-press actions can trigger HomeKit devices and scenes. Turning the dial is not an action Apple Home supports, so rotation can only be configured inside Aqara Home for Aqara devices. If dimming Apple-Home-only accessories from a knob is the goal, this is the caveat to know before buying.

Mounting options

Stick it to the wall with the supplied adhesive tape, screw it to a wall or to carpentry, or leave it free-standing on a table — the 24 mm body is slim enough for either. Its 86 × 86 mm plate lines up with Aqara’s other H1-series switches, so a knob beside an H1 Wireless Switch looks like one deliberate panel. There is nothing to wire and no neutral to worry about; the only requirement is an Aqara hub within Zigbee range.

Battery, hub and setup

Two CR2032 coin cells run the knob for up to three years, and the LED ring pulses when the battery is low. An Aqara Zigbee hub is required — the Smart Hub M100 is the value pick if the knob is your first Aqara device, and the Hub M3 is the flagship with Matter and Thread. Setup is a matter of adding the knob in Aqara Home and assigning each action. The Touchscreen Dial V1 is a wired, with-neutral panel that switches two circuits and adds a screen; the Knob Switch H1 is wireless, battery-powered and controls whatever you map to it. Choose the Dial for a renovation with a neutral at the switch box; choose the knob for a retrofit, a rental, or a bedside dimmer.
