The Aqara Door and Window Sensor T1 (model DW-S03D) is a two-piece Zigbee 3.0 contact sensor: a 41 mm sensor unit and a small magnet that stick either side of a door, window, gate or cabinet and report open or closed the moment the gap exceeds 22 mm. Through an Aqara hub that becomes a phone alert, a hub alarm or an automation — hallway light on when the front door opens, aircon off when the balcony door is left ajar. A sensor for every door and window
The sensor unit goes on the fixed frame and the magnet on the moving leaf. When the two are within 22 mm the sensor reads closed; move them apart and it reports open to the hub within moments. That single bit of information drives a surprising amount of a smart home: the entry scene when the front door opens, a reminder if the balcony door is still open when the aircon is on, or a nudge if the main door has been left open for more than two minutes. For the front door itself, many Singapore homes pair it with a Doorbell Camera Hub G410 so the open event and the camera clip land together.
Automations are built in Aqara Home as IF door/window opens or closes → THEN. Targets can be any Aqara device on the same hub — a Light Switch H2, a curtain driver, the hub siren — and, through the hub, the sensor is also visible in Apple Home for HomeKit automations.
Lights on when you walk in, alerts when you are out
The everyday use is the hallway or kitchen light that comes on when the door opens after dark and switches off after a set time. It is a small thing that becomes hard to live without, and because the sensor is battery-powered it can be added to a rental flat with no wiring at all.
For security, arm the hub when you leave and any door or window opening sends a push notification and can sound the hub’s siren. It is a notification-and-alarm system rather than a monitored one — the T1 has no siren of its own, the hub provides the sound — but for a flat it covers the common case: knowing, right now, that a door opened while nobody should be home. Installing the Door and Window Sensor T1 in a Singapore home
Alignment and the 22 mm gap
Line the sensor unit and magnet up on the mounting marks, sensor on the fixed frame, magnet on the door. Keep the gap under 22 mm when closed, but not so tight that the two touch when the door slams. If the frame and door are not level — common with HDB main doors and gates — Aqara’s tip is to turn the magnet through 90°. Avoid metal surfaces where you can: a metal gate degrades the Zigbee signal, so put the sensor unit on the wall or frame and only the magnet on the gate.
Which hub do I need?
An Aqara hub is required — the T1 is a Zigbee child device. The Smart Hub M100 is the value pick with a siren, the Hub M3 adds Matter and Thread, the Hub E1 is a compact USB stick, and the Camera Hub G3 gives you a camera and a hub in one. T1 or Door and Window Sensor P2?
The T1 is Zigbee and needs an Aqara hub; the Door and Window Sensor P2 is Thread/Matter and pairs directly to a Thread border router such as an Apple HomePod. If you already run an Aqara hub, the T1 is the cheaper, simpler choice; if you are building Apple-Home-first with no Aqara hub, the P2 is the one. Does the Aqara Door and Window Sensor T1 need a hub?
Yes. It is a Zigbee 3.0 device and needs an Aqara hub for notifications, alarms and automations. One hub supports up to 32 accessories.
How far apart can the sensor and magnet be?
No more than 22 mm when the door or window is closed. Aqara also advises not mounting them so close that they touch and damage each other when the door shuts.
What if my door and frame are not level?
Turn the magnet 90 degrees. Aqara recommends fixing the sensor unit to the frame and the small magnet to the door, which also protects the sensor.
Can it monitor my fridge?
It can tell you when the fridge door is open or has been left open — it is a contact sensor, so it does not measure temperature. For temperature, add the Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor T1.
Does it have its own siren?
No. Alerts and alarms come from the Aqara hub — the hub sends the notification and sounds its siren when the sensor reports an opening.
Does it work with Apple Home and Alexa?
Through an Aqara hub, yes — the Singapore distributor lists Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and the Aqara Home app for this sensor.
Why does it go offline or fail to pair?
Aqara’s checklist: too far from the hub, a low or dead battery, mounting on a metal surface, or more than 32 accessories already on the hub.
How long does the battery last?
Up to two years on one CR1632, per the Singapore distributor. The cell is user-replaceable.
How do I reset it?
Push in and hold the reset button for five seconds until the indicator flashes three times. A reset is needed before moving the sensor to another hub.
