Main light and colour ring, controlled separately

Aqara’s FAQ confirms that the main light and the side light (the ring) support independent switching, independent brightness adjustment and independent automation. In practice that means three fixtures’ worth of behaviour from one ceiling light: main light only, ring only, or both. The ring is RGBIC, so its colours can flow around the rim in dynamic effects rather than showing one flat colour.

The main panel is tunable white from 2700K to 6500K. For a Singapore flat that usually means around 3000K in the bedroom and living room in the evening, and 5000K or higher in a study or kitchen. The colour ring and the main light share the same Zigbee radio, so both respond together to a scene or a schedule.

Apple Home, Adaptive Lighting and Aqara Home

Aqara lists Aqara Home and Apple Home as the control apps for the T1M, and in Apple Home the light supports Adaptive Lighting, which slowly moves the colour temperature from warm at dawn to cooler in the middle of the day and warm again at night. The light itself is a Zigbee device and needs an Aqara hub; through a Matter-capable hub such as the Hub M3 it can also be exposed to other Matter ecosystems, but the native, Aqara-documented apps are Aqara Home and Apple Home.

Once on the hub, the T1M joins the rest of your Aqara automations. Common pairings: a Presence Sensor FP2 that turns the main light on when someone enters and off when the room is empty, a Wireless Knob Switch H1 on the wall for click-to-toggle and rotate-to-dim, or a schedule that brings the ring up in a low warm colour after 10 pm.

Installing the Ceiling Light T1M in a Singapore home

Wiring and mounting

The T1M is a mains-wired, surface-mounted ceiling light rated 100 to 240 V, 50/60 Hz, so it connects directly to the existing ceiling point. Aqara’s manual requires it to be earthed (L, N and earth), and its FAQ tells you to cut the power at the breaker before installing. The box includes a mounting bracket, self-tapping screws, flat-head screws, plastic anchors and metal and plastic washers; Aqara notes that not every bracket accessory is needed — use what suits your ceiling. In an HDB or condo this is an electrician’s job, and the replacement usually takes under half an hour.

Which hub do I need?

An Aqara hub is required; the T1M is a Zigbee child device and does not connect to Wi-Fi on its own. The Smart Hub M100 is the value choice, the Hub M2 adds an IR blaster for the aircon, and the Hub M3 is the flagship with Matter and Thread. Keep the hub within reasonable range of the light: Aqara’s FAQ lists distance to the hub and a poor network environment as the two causes of a pairing timeout. Reset and delay settings

To reset the light, use the wall switch to turn it on and off five times (one second on, one second off); the main light breathes twice to confirm. The light also supports a delayed off — 1.5 s by default, adjustable from 0 to 10 s in the app — which is handy when the light is on a wall switch and you want a moment to leave the room.
