What a 20 A switch is for

Most smart wall switches are rated around 10 A, which is fine for lighting but not for a heater element. The Singapore distributor positions the 20A H1 for exactly the high-power loads a Singapore flat has on their own switches: water heaters, ovens, kitchen hobs and hoods, and dryers. It replaces the existing heater or appliance switch one-for-one in the same 86 mm box, so the change is invisible except that the appliance now has an app, a schedule and a place in your automations.

Aqara’s own examples: turn on the bathroom exhaust when a Temperature and Humidity Sensor reads 80% or a door sensor on the toilet lid opens; turn on the bedroom lights when a motion sensor triggers. For the heater, the useful pair is a schedule plus a countdown — on at 6 am, off after 30 minutes — and a Water Leak Sensor T1 under the heater that cuts it off if the tank ever leaks.

Power monitoring, memory and the wireless-switch trick

With the hub, the switch reports power consumption and generates a power curve in Aqara Home, which Aqara pitches as the way to see which appliances are efficient and which are not. Power-off memory lets you decide whether the appliance comes back on after a power cut — for a heater, most people set it to stay off. Aqara’s ‘convert to wireless switch’ setting decouples the rocker from the relay: the relay follows automations, and the button becomes a spare scene switch. The LED indicator can be turned off at night or made to follow the switch state.

Wiring

The switch needs live and neutral in the box and is rated 100–250 V AC, 50/60 Hz, max 20 A resistive. Heater switches in HDB flats are usually on their own 20 A circuit with a neutral present, which is why this is the one Aqara switch most homes can fit without rewiring — but have a licensed electrician confirm the circuit and do the swap. Hub and range
