2.6K video, f/1.0 optics and True Color Night Vision

The G5 Pro records at Quad HD 2688 × 1520 — around 4 megapixels, which Aqara markets as 2.6K — from a single fixed lens with a 133° diagonal field of view (112° horizontal, 60.3° vertical) and a 4.2 mm focal length. That is wide enough to cover a typical HDB main-door corridor or a driveway from a single mounting point without a fisheye look.

Why the f/1.0 aperture matters after dark

Most outdoor cameras switch to black-and-white infrared once the light drops. The G5 Pro pairs an f/1.0 aperture — Aqara states it gathers up to four times more light than a conventional f/2.0 lens — with a 1/1.8-inch CMOS sensor that has a graphene cooling layer to keep sensor noise down. The result is colour video in low light, down to 0.01 lux, so you can tell the colour of a jacket or a vehicle at night rather than guessing from a grey silhouette. Aqara does not advertise a separate infrared mono mode for this model; night performance comes from the optics and sensor.

Integrated spotlight

A dimmable 3 W spotlight (120° beam, 3000 K warm white) sits below the lens. Use it as a motion-triggered deterrent, as a porch light on a schedule, or leave it off and rely on the low-light sensor. The passive infrared (PIR) sensor covers 100° horizontally and 65° vertically to wake the camera and light on real movement.

On-device AI: 7-in-1 visual and 4-in-1 audio detection

The built-in neural processing unit runs detection on the camera itself rather than in the cloud. Aqara’s current visual AI recognises seven categories: faces, individual vehicles, people, animals, lingering individuals, lens obstruction and delivered packages. Audio AI adds four sound categories, including alarms and baby cries. Because inference is local, automations such as “turn on the corridor light when a person is detected” keep working during an internet outage, and video is analysed without leaving the device.

Practical uses in a Singapore home

• Get a notification when a parcel is left at the HDB main door, and a different one when someone lingers near it.
• Trigger an Aqara smart lock or light scene when a familiar face is recognised at a landed-property gate.
• Use the vehicle category to log arrivals at a driveway or condo carpark bay you can see from your unit.
• Have the spotlight and 100 dB speaker respond to movement in a back lane after midnight.

A Matter Controller, Thread Border Router and Zigbee hub — outdoors

This is what separates the G5 Pro from other outdoor cameras. Aqara built it as a Matter Controller with a Thread Border Router and a Zigbee hub, plus Matter Bridge functionality that exposes your Aqara Zigbee accessories to third-party Matter ecosystems. In practice, a G5 Pro at your front door can host Aqara door and window sensors, presence sensors, wireless switches and locks, and share them with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, SmartThings or Home Assistant.

How it compares with a dedicated Aqara hub

If you already run an Aqara Hub M3 or Hub M200, the G5 Pro joins the same Aqara Home account and simply adds a second hub location outdoors. If you do not yet own a hub, the G5 Pro can be your first one. Two differences to plan around: the G5 Pro has no infrared blaster (the M3 and M200 do, for controlling air-conditioners), and Aqara publishes no separate Zigbee or Thread child-device capacity figure for the G5 Pro, so for a large sensor network a dedicated hub indoors remains the better anchor.

Ecosystem support

Aqara lists the G5 Pro as compatible with Aqara Home, Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings and Home Assistant. Apple Home users get HomeKit Secure Video with end-to-end encryption and local footage analysis, and Aqara notes the G5 Pro is among the few HomeKit Secure Video cameras to support PoE and True Color Night Vision. RTSP streaming is supported for Home Assistant and third-party video servers. The G5 Pro is a Matter Controller and Bridge; it is not itself a Matter-certified camera device — that distinction currently belongs to the Camera Hub G350.

Storage: encrypted eMMC, NAS, RTSP and cloud

There is no microSD slot. Footage is written to 32 GB of encrypted eMMC storage built into the camera, which can back up to a NAS on your home network over SMB and stream live over RTSP. Aqara cloud storage comes with a 30-day free trial when the camera first connects, with no card binding; Apple Home users can record to iCloud through HomeKit Secure Video instead. Footage sent to either cloud is end-to-end encrypted.

Two-way talk and a 100 dB speaker

A high-sensitivity microphone (−33 dB) and a 100 dB speaker give clear two-way conversation from the Aqara Home app — useful for talking to a delivery rider at the gate or telling the kids the door is unlocked. The speaker also carries the audio deterrent for the AI detections above.

The PoE version draws 48 V at 0.27 A — roughly 13 W, within the IEEE 802.3af 15.4 W class — so it runs from most PoE switches and injectors. Installing the G5 Pro in a Singapore home

Mounting

The G5 Pro is a fixed-orientation camera — there are no pan or tilt motors. Aim it once using the rotatable mounting base, which carries a standard 1/4-inch thread and works on walls, ceilings, eaves and flat surfaces; the box includes a rear lid opener and a wall screws and anchors kit. Position it so the 133° field of view covers the approach path rather than pointing straight down at the doormat.

HDB corridors and condo units

For an HDB main door, the common arrangement is a wall or ceiling mount above the door frame with a cable run back to the nearest power point inside the unit, or to a PoE switch in the DB box or study. Check your town council’s guidelines on fixtures in the common corridor before drilling, and keep the lens clear of the neighbour’s door where possible. Aqara’s privacy and activity-zone tools help limit what is recorded.

Landed property and outdoor power

The Wi-Fi version needs a 5 V / 2 A USB-C supply; the camera ships with a power cable but no power adapter, so pair it with a quality USB-C adapter inside a weatherproof enclosure or run the cable back to an indoor socket. The PoE version avoids the outdoor power question entirely — one Ethernet cable from a PoE switch does both jobs, which is why we recommend it for new landed builds and reinstatement works.
