Why buy the Aqara Downlight T2 in Singapore

• One 75 mm hole, four beam angles. Choose 15° or 24° to pick out a painting or a feature wall, 36° for a corridor or dining table, and 60° for general room lighting — all on the same cut-out, so a renovation can mix them.

Spotlight or downlight — which beam angle?

The three spotlight versions (15°, 24°, 36°) have a narrower beam and a lamp body that tilts by up to 25°, which is what lets you aim the light at a wall, a shelf or a piece of art instead of straight down. The 15° is the tightest — a bright pool on one object — while 36° gives a wider wash that still reads as accent lighting. In a typical HDB living room, 24° or 36° spots along the TV wall and 60° downlights across the seating area is the usual combination.

The 60° Downlight T2 is the general-purpose version: a wide, even beam from a fixed (non-tilting) body, spaced roughly a metre apart across a false ceiling. All four share the same LED module, driver, cut-out and app behaviour, so mixing them in one room keeps the colour and dimming consistent.

Aqara Home and Apple Home

The T2 is a Zigbee 3.0 child device that must be paired with an Aqara hub. Once paired it appears in Aqara Home and, through the hub’s HomeKit bridge, in Apple Home with Adaptive Lighting. The Singapore distributor states that this original T2 does not currently support Google Home; if you need Google or Alexa control in a recessed light, look at the newer Downlight T2 Pro, which also adds a 55 mm cut-out option and Ra 96. For a HomeKit-and-Aqara household the standard T2 is the lower-cost choice.

Typical automations: a Presence Sensor FP2 turning the downlights on when someone enters and off when the room empties, a Wireless Knob Switch H1 at the doorway for click on/off and rotate-to-dim, and a Good Night scene that drops everything to 1% warm white.

Installing the Downlight T2 in a Singapore home

Cut-out, wiring and power

Each fitting needs a 75 mm (±2 mm) hole in the false ceiling and a 220–240 V mains connection to the separate driver (about 100 × 33 × 20 mm), which sits above the ceiling next to the lamp body. Power draw is 10 W with a 0.9 power factor. Because this is mains wiring inside a ceiling, the distributor describes the T2 as a product for professional installation — plan it with your renovation electrician, ideally at the same time as the false-ceiling work so the driver and cabling are placed before the boards go up.

Which hub do I need?

Any Aqara Zigbee hub works: the Smart Hub M100 for a small flat, the Hub M2 if you also want IR control of the aircon, or the Hub M3 as the flagship. A whole-flat lighting plan with ten or more downlights is well within one hub’s device limit.
